How the rental search works here
Set your real criteria
Bedrooms, budget ceiling, move-in date, pets, and how far you'll drive. Being specific is what makes a rental list useful instead of overwhelming.
Get a current list
I pull active lease listings from the MLS and local property managers, since national rental apps miss a lot of Bastrop inventory.
Tour quickly
Good rentals here can go under application within days. I'll help you get in the door fast.
Apply the same day
With your packet ready, you submit while the home is still available instead of watching it go.
Have your application packet ready
Renters who get approved are the ones who can submit the same afternoon they tour. Gather these before you start looking.
- Photo ID for every adult applicant
- Two most recent pay stubs, or an offer letter with start date and salary
- Two to three months of bank statements if you're self-employed
- Previous landlord name, phone number, and dates of tenancy
- Pet details: breed, weight, age, and vaccination records
What move-in actually costs
Budget beyond the monthly rent. These are the line items that show up most often on Bastrop leases.
Charged per adult applicant and typically non-refundable, whether or not you're approved.
Often close to one month's rent. Higher deposits are common with limited rental history.
Many Bastrop rentals charge a one-time pet fee plus monthly pet rent per animal. Breed and weight limits are common.
Electric, water, and internet may each require a deposit or setup fee in your name before move-in.
Usually due at lease signing, sometimes prorated if you move in mid-month.
Most landlords require a policy in place before you get keys — it's usually inexpensive.
Where to look
Master-planned communities
Newer homes with amenities, sidewalks, and yard-maintenance expectations. Good fit if you want a modern floor plan and a neighborhood feel.
Established neighborhoods near downtown
Closer to Main Street, schools, and shopping. Older homes, mature trees, and typically larger lots than new sections.
Wooded and acreage rentals
More privacy and space, often on septic or a well. Ask who handles lawn care, septic service, and any outbuildings.
Smithville, Elgin & Cedar Creek
Nearby options worth including in your search if your commute allows — inventory and pricing can differ meaningfully from Bastrop proper.
Read the lease carefully
Before you sign, confirm the lease term and renewal terms, early-termination penalties, maintenance request procedures, who handles yard care and any pool or septic system, and whether the owner intends to sell during your term. Ask which utilities you're responsible for — in acreage-area rentals, lawn care and trash usually aren't included. This is general information, not legal advice; for lease-specific questions, consult an attorney.
Tell me what you need and I'll send current rentals.
I'll pull a fresh Bastrop County lease list matching your bedrooms, budget, move-in date, and pet situation — usually the same day. In most lease transactions the landlord or property manager pays my fee, so there's no cost to you.
